Best Professional Basketball Player Prop for May 13: Mitchell Keeps Firing

Best Professional Basketball Player Prop for May 13: Mitchell Keeps Firing

Donovan Mitchell turned Game 4 into one of the defining performances of the playoffs. He scored 39 of his 43 points after halftime, tied an NBA playoff record for points in a half, and powered Cleveland’s 24-0 third-quarter run to even the series against Detroit at 2-2. James Harden added 24 points and 11 assists, while Evan Mobley finished with 17 points, eight rebounds, and five blocks.

Now the series shifts back to Detroit for Game 5, and the market has to decide how much of Mitchell’s scoring surge was a one-game eruption versus a role signal. His points line is still sitting in the mid-20s on Novig, which keeps the Over in play even after the market reacts to the box score.

Best Cavaliers vs. Pistons player prop

Donovan Mitchell Over 26.5 points (-118)

Mitchell’s Game 4 explosion was extreme, but the role behind it was not. Cleveland needed him to take over after halftime, and he answered with 13 free-throw makes, downhill pressure, and enough shot-making to break Detroit’s defense in one quarter. The Pistons tried different coverages, but Mitchell kept turning the corner, drawing contact, and getting to his pull-up spots.

That matters for Game 5 because the points line is not forcing another 40-piece. At 26.5, Mitchell needs a strong scoring night, not a historic one. He has already shown that Cleveland’s offense can tilt fully toward him when the game gets tight, and the Cavaliers do not need to hide that heading into Detroit. Harden can organize possessions, Mobley can clean the glass and protect the rim, but Mitchell is the player Detroit has to stop first.

The free-throw angle is worth watching. Pistons coach J.B. Bickerstaff ripped the officiating after Game 4, pointing to Mitchell’s 15 free throws compared with 12 for Detroit as a team. That noise could influence how Detroit defends him, but it also shows the problem. Mitchell is not only relying on jumpers. When he gets downhill, the Pistons either give up the lane, foul, or send extra help and open the floor for Cleveland’s next pass.

Novig’s Over 26.5 at -118 is the cleanest position because it protects against some natural regression from Game 4. The Over 29.5 at +148 is the more aggressive trade if you expect Detroit’s coverage to crack again, but the main line is the better balance of role, usage, and price.

Why not chase the 34.5?

Mitchell Over 34.5 at +346 is tempting after what just happened, but that number asks for a near-repeat of the second-half takeover. The payout is big for a reason. Detroit will likely show him more bodies earlier, especially after watching one run decide Game 4.

That does not kill the Over 26.5. It actually strengthens the case for the lower number. Mitchell can land in the high 20s through free throws, transition chances, and late-clock touches without needing another record-setting half. The alt line is a ceiling play; the main line is the marketable value prop.

Other Novig props to watch

James Harden Over 26.5 points + assists (-107)

Harden had 24 points and 11 assists in Game 4, and this is the best supporting angle if Detroit sends more help at Mitchell. Cleveland does not need Harden to score 25 for this to clear. A 16-point, 11-assist type of game gets there, and the -107 price is cleaner than his assists-only market at Over 6.5 (-144).

This is the direct hedge against Detroit’s Mitchell adjustment. If the Pistons trap earlier or load the strong side, Harden’s assist volume becomes more important.

Cade Cunningham Over 26.5 points (-116)

Cunningham is the Detroit-side counter. He finished Game 4 with 19 points, but Detroit returns home with the series tied and needs him to carry more of the late-clock scoring load. The Over 29.5 at +162 is the aggressive bounce-back angle, while Over 26.5 at -116 is the more stable line.

This prop makes sense if the game script flips back toward Detroit control. If the Pistons lead deeper into the second half, Cunningham’s touches should rise, and Cleveland’s defense will have to balance his scoring against LeVert’s bench creation.

Trade Cavaliers vs. Pistons Props on Novig

Mitchell is the search play and the sharpest headline prop after Game 4, but the board has layers. His Over 26.5 points is the cleanest position, Harden’s points + assists becomes live if Detroit overreacts, and Cunningham’s points market is the home-team response.

On Novig’s commission-free prediction market, those prices move with real trader conviction instead of a house edge protecting the book.
